Vaclav Chalupsky, in the realm of music known as Chalupski, a composer and musician,
stands as an established figure in the field of emotionally centripetal music. With a passion for crafting deeply evocative compositions, Chalupski provides his audiences with the platform for exploration of their emotional depths. Although classically trained, he draws inspiration from a
wide array of musical influences and continues to explore the boundaries of his artistic expression.
Early in his musical journey Chalupski founded a live project that encapsulated his compositional work, leading to compelling live performances. In 2019 he debuted with an album Vortex that showcased a collection of piano based compositions, in some cases accompanied by string quartet. The release of his second album Improvisations for Dance in 2022 was foreshadowed by his lengthy experience as a musician in the realm of contemporary dance. Chalupski balances his musical career by blending live performances, featuring songs from his solo albums, with dedicated studio work and collaborations.
Chalupski continued to explore the field of composition by collaborating with contemporary dance choreographers. Drawing on his keen ability to tune into the vibes of his collaborators, he crafted compositions that established a dialogue between his music and the art of dance. Chalupski collaborated on numerous choreographies and live dance performances, including Uncovered
by Tereza Krejčová, The End’s Turnabout by Michal Záhora or award winning dis pla y by
Tereza Lenerová and Jitka Čechová.
Chalupski’s ability to connect with collaborators and intuitively understand their artistic needs, translates into his work as a composer for movies and commercial projects. He worked on movie soundtracks for Lukáš Valíšek’s short film auto.au.rum or Tomáš Bubák’s Příběh and composed music for the developers of new learning app SkillAdicts or commercial spots for BOBO BLOK
and Czech Dance Platform.
While his work takes the center stage of Chalupski’s live performances, he also actively participates in various bands and musical projects. He was part of the acoustic band of Kalle and currently plays with established band teepee and an ensemble that accompany Emma Smetana and Jordan Haj.
